A collection of electronic reference books which includes Dictionary of Accounting (2007), Dictionary of Finance and Investment Terms (2006) and Dictionary of Financial Engineering (2000). Explore the concept map which may help with essay planning.

Datastream  (in Library only) 

If you are a masters or dissertation student, you may want to use Datastream – a very powerful database with financial and economic data from around the world. It is available through MyApps (ie anywhere on campus). Use is limited to two simultaneous connections at any one time. Try after 15 minutes if unsuccessful at first.

Although known for its Marketing Reports this service provides useful UK Company Information including benchmarking tools and access to Company Reports and accounts from Companies House.

Up-to-date information on 30,000+ worldwide companies, 3,500 industry reports and over 110 country profiles. Rebranded merger of Business Insights and Datamonitor. Explore the individual databases on offer including Company Prospector to help build lists of potential business partners, clients, and Investment & Advisory Prospector which identifies advisory & investment firms operating in specific industries. and gain insight into the investment and inorganic strategy of companies.

Aimed at accountancy professional this is a useful site for keeping up-to-date with news and resources. Registration is free.

Explore in particular the “Technical Activities "Research and Insights" and the Student areas of this website.

The Commission oversees auditing services for the NHS and local public services. Find information about their work including reports and the performance tools to measure efficiency on this website. Includes much on fraud prevention.

Information for students but also check out the CIMA resources available from the “Thought Leadership” section

The FRC is the UK’s independent regulator responsible for promoting high quality corporate governance and reporting to foster investment.  Find accountancy, auditing and assurance, and corporate governance standards and codes on this site.

Keep up-to-date with UK’s tax authority.

• 

Independent organisation offering research on public finances, tax and welfare policy, tax law, education, inequality and poverty, pensions, productivity and innovation, consumer behaviour and the evaluation of policies designed to promote development in poorer countries. Useful fiscal facts section.

• 

A major UK accountancy body, useful student section. Some reports and research freely available although most limited to members. Do check out the ICAEW Library subject gateways covering over 20 subjects from accounting through corporate governance to tax.

Look for the sections starting with these numbers. The shelf end guide cards will help you find various aspects of the subject. Remember the Discovery tool/catalogue will help you locate useful e-material.
