Business & Management - Finding Articles

Our Discovery Service will provide you with many articles you need. But sometimes you, perhaps on a lecturer’s advice, may prefer to look at a specific resource such a named database, single publisher site or even a particular journal title. Consider using one or more news services to keep you up to date with the business world.

These are designed to bring together published research (articles, conference papers, possibly books) across defined areas. You can then use their sophisticated search options to find articles written on specific subjects/topics.

Excellent source of articles from both professional journals (e.g. Harvard Business Review, Management Today etc) and from academic peer reviewed journals (e.g. Academy of Management Journal). Database also includes market reports, company reports and swot analysis from sources such as Marketline and Datamonitor.

Emerald is a leading publisher of journals covering many management areas such as Human Resources, Logistics and Marketing. Good full-text coverage.  You can select articles that are case studies or literature reviews if looking for examples of this type of writing.

In spite of its name, this database giving full-text access to many Elsevier journals, has many articles on business and management topics. Journals available include Journal of Business Research and Journal of International Management.

The strength of this database is the use of "Cited Reference Search" which enables you to find out more recent articles that have included a known article as a reference.  The Web of Science database may sometimes give useful references.

Another high impact peer reviewed journal from the Academy of Management, this is a theory development journal challenging the conventional wisdom of organisations.

The EMJ, a peer reviewed journal, presents the latest thinking and research on major management topics while still being accessible to non-specialists.

A highly readable professional journal for managers.  Although not strictly academic the publisher and high level standing of the contributors still keeps this a leading journal. Contains useful literature reviews and surveys on all aspects of management –useful for academics or researchers wanting to be brought up to date on a specific topic.

Original articles and reviews concerning ethical issues related to business and analyses of systems of production, consumption, marketing, advertising, social and economic accounting, public relations and organizational behaviour from a moral viewpoint.

The Economist not in Discovery 

Click through to Publishers site for full-text. Leading weekly magazine covering global political, economic and business news. Includes archive back to 1997. On Campus use only (or use VPN or Web Proxy when away from the University

• 

Access todays FT and the archive back to 2004. Find up to date business and commercial news, global financial markets, company and industrial sector information. Explore data on companies. markets and investments including charts and research tools.

Nexis not in Discovery 

Full text articles from many news sources and trade journals both UK and international. Archives sometimes stretching back to the late 1990s.

Business management topics are generally on the first floor in the 658s but you will find some subjects in other sections, e.g. 302.35 (Ground floor) Organizational behaviour from a sociological point of view. Remember using the discovery tool and catalogue will help you exploit all our resources.
